I read The Star and came across the news about the Batik Fashion Design Contest held in KL. The Vonjolly team had won the contest. One of their creation which I found the best was this dress named Drape. It is a half shoulder gown with thigh-high slit. The base colour which is light blue provides a sense of purity, whereas the warmer colour blends perfectly while flowing downwards diagonally from the left thigh to the right foot. The model looks elegant in that particular dress that reveals her beautiful long leg. ; )

Thursday, August 02, 2007

"LOVE ME TENDER," says Faustino

I read about this architect, Didier Fiuza Faustino in the library and was
impressed by his creations, especially this metal chair by the name of
'Love Me Tender'. This monolithic chair possesses a minimalist and simple design. The legs of the metal chair are sharp at the ends. To me, it looks unfriendly and threatening because of its spear-like legs and its rigid metal body. On top of that, the slimmer bottom of the chair levitates the entire body and gives it a sense of weightlessness.
As a matter of fact, I am attracted by the design of this chair but not the comfort that it can possibly provide. I am pretty sure that it is not a comfortable object to rest on. =]

Wednesday, August 01, 2007
* Came across this article from a forum and I found it to be very true. This was produced by using only the basic tools as i am still not familiar with the software. I tried to enlarge it in Xanga but it appeared blur.
'Believe in Architecture' - I came across this phrase during a class last week. It was mentioned by my lecturer. I agreed with what he said. "If you really want to excel in architecture, you have to believe in it, and have passion in it."
To believe is to have faith in. I treat architecture as if a religion. Religions are usually mythical and spiritual. Therefore, I deliberately created a mythical, mysterious, soulful and dark background, in
order to compromise with the theme 'Believe in Architecture'.
On top of that, I had randomly chosen a few well-known buildings. Some of these creations are among my favourites. All of them possess unique concepts and significance, outstanding in form, and have their respective aesthetical and historical values.
(Clock-wise from top right): Roof of the Chrysler Building, The Louvre Museum, Petronas Twin Towers (Malaysia Boleh! But how come built by foreign architects ah?), CCTV International, Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, Sydney Opera House, Church of Light, Eifel Tower (centre).

Wednesday, July 25, 2007

< Emerging from Hibernation >

It has been two months since I last blogged.. And I do not have much time for that..
Well, I'll just summarize what had happened for the past 2 months.. I had a 2-month semester break and i went for practical training in an architectural firm.. It was one of the most memorable period in my life as i spent approximately 2/3 of time there every working day. It was tiring, but enjoyable at the same time. I had learned a lot throughout the training, and had also brushed up my AutoCAD skills there.
My colleagues are all nice people. They are helpful to some extent, approachable and easy to get along with. We shared jokes and craps, and that was what brought us through our OT nights. We went for meals almost every day, played badminton, went karaoke and of course, working in the office as a team most of the time.

Architects and quantity surveyors of the future.. It's my mother's birthday. First time, I'm not celebrating this special occasion with her.

My mother's first child is thousands of miles away working in Melbourne.

My mother's another two children who used to compromise to stay in the same uterus for 9 months are also hundreds of miles away in KL. The one who was keener to see the world and struggled to crawl out first is having his final exam now. The other one who felt more comfortable staying in his mother's tummy and wanted to stay in it longer is presently doing practical training in KL.

My mother's only child who has the same gender as her is the most filial one. She managed to return to hometown to celebrate her mother's birthday.

*Is that the fate of a mother? How stressful and suffering it is for a mother to stay pregnant for the tedious nine months? The tummy becomes bigger and heavier day by day, yet still feeling worthwhile sacrificing her previous attractive body figure. After nine months of anticipation, a new life is born. A mother goes through a typical process of nurturing and educating her offspring. Parents have always hoped their children to be well-educated and become an outstanding person in the future. They spend a lot of effort, time and money to achieve that. Fortunately or unfortunately, when their children have reached a certain stage, they will need to leave their parents to pursue their individual dreams. Again, is this the fate of a mother and a father?*

My siblings and I are absent most of the time as we are studying far away from hometown. I suppose that my mom feels lonely at home at times. My mother's frequent calls prove that. Of course, it also shows her consistent concern about me. Regretful, I have only called back home a handful of times. Sometimes, when my mom calls at the wrong time where I am busy, I tend to talk restlessly. I am sure that she is able to sense that and tries to cut down what she has planned to tell or ask. After the call is ended, she carries on staring at the television with no intention of watching, but just for the sake of burning the night time.

For my mom's birthday, what I did was minimal. Merely a call to wish her happy birthday.
She sounded considerate and understanding about my absence on her
birthday. However, I know it would make her smile a mile long if all
of her four children are there to celebrate her birthday. It could
definitely be more valuable than the delivered fanciful presents.

Ya. Merely a simple wish.
Happy birthday mom.

Saturday, May 12, 2007

ICY SOCIOLOGY

I was preparing a syrup drink. I was hoping for a cold drink but i had only warm water. Therefore, I opened the freezer and found cubes of ice in it. I used my fingers to dig three cubes of them, then dropped them into my drink. I was so thirsty that I held the cup upwards more than 45 degrees and gulped it down into my throat in just a few seconds. After that, I just poured the left over ices into the basin without hesitation, of course. The ices were still maintaining in their original cubical shapes and had only melted a little. Perhaps the ices were not soaked in the drink long enough to melt.

It sounded as if there was nothing special about what had just happened. This situation which happened within seconds reminded me of something. I pondered. There are two perspectives from this situation - symbiosis and parasitism. (Symbiosis: A relationship of mutual benefit or interdependence. / Parasitism: The relationship between two different organisms in which one receives benefits from the other by causing damage to it.) Naturally, I related it to social relations. Treat the ice cubes as
ourselves. Treat the people around us as the one who makes the drink.
When one needs you so desperately, they think of ways to convince you.
When you are no longer useful, you are eliminated. Like how much you appreciate the existence of the ice cubes, and how cruel you throw them away after you have finished the drink.

The symbiosis relation is a very precious thing. It hardly happens in our lives. But I believe it still remains among close buddies of our own. We go through ups and downs together and chat merrily about in-common topics. 'You scratch my back, i scratch your back'. Unfortunately as we grow up specifically from the age of 19-20, everyone of us has our independent perspectives and opts to set off for our own individual aims. There is where separations and gaps start to emerge.

As maturity takes over the immature mentality , the symbiosis relations will gradually lessen and the parasitism relations will start to appear around us. People tend to become self-centered. They rely and depend on each other, as stepping stones to achieve their goals. Human has numerous and endless desires in life. To achieve them alone is no easy task. Therefore, people around are being taken advantage of.

People tend to be two-face and wear masks. If we think properly, it actually does make sense and can be identified as a matured act. At this stage of life, we need to tolerate and be patient even with things or people that we are not in favour of, instead of creating trouble and foes in our lives. For instance, when you dislike or hate a person, will you show him/her an expression which obviously indicates 'I hate you' ? I bet most of us will smile and wave reluctantly in front of them. Then curse and tease them behind.

Another example is when we are working in a company, we have no choice even if we are dissatisfied with our colleagues and employer. Most of the time, we need to put on a fake mask and give in. If we tend to be offensive and emotional, we might be suppressed and can never go further. 'Life is never fair', quoted by Bill Gates. Yes, now we have to admit that we are two-face or have to be two-face to some extent. This is how the situation works, and that's the best way to deal with our social lives. Unless you want to make your life more difficult by creating another enemy. Of course, among our close friends, we still show the most genuine side of ourselves.

I mean no offense to the people around me. I am not implying that anyone of you are treating me in a fake manner. What being mentioned above is merely a general analysis of the fact in our lives. After all, it is inevitable.

Wednesday, May 02, 2007

MY LOVE...(?)

Sleepless night
The growth of my wisdom tooth is aching
The tiny heart of mine aches greater

Grabbing my phone tightly and hoping it to beep
It beeps but it isn't you
Wondering
Why aren't you replying or answering my calls
Numerous possibilities are running through my mind
Wanting to call again
But timid me holds myself back
Afraid that I'll be annoying if you are busy or asleep

Still
There's no reply
That drags the both ends of my lips downwards
Listening to "Tanning In Your Sunray"
Soon
I doze off reluctantly
I see you in slumberland
How sweet

You're as if hibiscus
Bees craving for you
I'm the pygmy one
Inconspicuous and distance away
Struggling to be noticeable

Oblivious of rivalries
Who approach you with guts
You seem close to them
I'm losing back
Curling up at a corner
Witnessing with jealousy

You mention names of guys to me
Telling stories about them
With passion
I am willing to listen
As long as you are happy to express

Sob
Where do i stand in your heart?
At an invisible corner?
Or perhaps not even a space for me

Miraculously
One precious moment
Just the you and me
Staring deeply into your eyes
It melts my heart
So i look slightly away from your eyes
To prevent my heart from palpitating too rapidly
Until I can't utter a word

Wanting to grab your hands
But it ends up
My fingers rubbing against my palm
Perspiring
Cause i know i am just nobody
Not to the extent of doing so
I can only hold your elbow while crossing the deadly street
Too little

Half past four in the morning
I am ready for bed
Everything of you distracts me
Again, I am thinking of you
Wondering are you
I look at your picture
I smile with tears
Realizing how much i miss you

You are so far away
But just inches away from my heart
No matter who am i to you
I pray sincerely
Wishing the best for you
Apart from happiness and good health
Also you'll soon find your Mr. Right
As what you have always desired

Goodnight
Always my dear
Loves...

Tuesday, April 03, 2007

Typical Tuesday for me, i had to attend classes from 8am to 5pm.. The 8-hour classes were seriously tedious.. Once i entered the class, i sloughed wearily. I had slept for only one and a half hours last night.. It was my own fault for idling and starting work late..

I managed to take a cat nap before my design studio class.. We had a critic session during the class this afternoon. We were needed to briefly present on the initial form model we made for a new project called 'The Grid'.. I wasn't well-prepared for that and was just able to present fairly..

* 'The Grid' is a project where every student is assigned a different character with different occupations. Then, study and research on that particular person and design a house for him/her based on his/her characteristics and occupation. The size of the house is restrained, which is only 6m x 6m x 6m in scale.. Mine is a gymnast.. I have chosen Svetlana Khorkina who is a famous Russian gymnast.. She is the 3-time world champion in the Olympic Games..*

Below are photos of the mock-up model i have made. This is only the initial stage of my design. I am required to modify and develop more on its form, space, openings before i come up with a final model. I have reasons to back up my design based on Svetlana's character but i am not gonna present again here in my blog..

Here it is.. It may look weird and odd to you.. Anyway, i do welcome critics and opinions..
